Weeks after the conflict between representatives of the tire workers union, SUTNA, and the threat of a shortage of tires in different parts of the country, the City Police carried out raids on two tire shops in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires and seized illegal material for a accumulated value of more than 32 million pesos.Personnel from the Department of Contraventions and Misdemeanors of the Buenos Aires police carried out, together with the Government Control Agency (AGC), the two inspections. The first was carried out in a tire shop on Avellaneda street at 100 and the second, in another place on Gaona avenue at 1,200.During the procedure, a total of 750 tires and 90 rims that were illegally marketed were seized. The exact total value seized was 32.7 million pesos.During the raid on the Avellaneda avenue business, a summons was drawn up for the obstruction of the corridors for transit inside the premises and the modification of the pit, which should be filled in in its entirety. For its part, in the premises of Gaona Avenue, a closing act was drawn up due to lack of safety and hygiene. The 750 tires and 90 tires seized were used material, they were on display for sale and their corresponding origin was not available. For this reason, the Prosecutor's Office of Flagrancia of the Western Fiscal Unit, in charge of Dr. Rodrigo Pagano Mata, was notified, who ordered the kidnapping of all the elements, as well as the identification of the people in the place and the notification to the responsible for the violation of the Auto Parts Law.The Justice also ordered the transfer of the tires and the tires to the Judicial Court of the City Police, located at 2,800 Ferré Street, in the Villa Soldati neighborhood.Just 9 days ago, the same Buenos Aires police carried out a similar operation in the neighborhood of Parque Patricios where, as a result of the raid on a tire shop, 500 tires and almost 100 rims were seized, which were also illegally marketed. The operation, which was carried out by members of the Vehicle and Auto Parts Theft Division of the City Police, was carried out in a place located at 2,800 Juan de Garay Avenue. There, the products were exhibited with their measurements labeled in white ink and some even with the price, so it was obvious that the intention was to sell them.According to what was explained from the Buenos Aires Force, both used tires and rims cannot be marketed, since they are security elements. In this sense, the owner of the workshop, a man of Bolivian nationality, was notified of the beginning of a case against him, in which the South Flagrancia Prosecutor's Office will intervene, for alleged violation of Law 25,761, known as the Disarmament Law.When consulted by the inspectors, the merchant could not show any type of supporting documentation on the merchandise that he wanted to sell.Because of this, investigators suspect that many of the wheels are likely stolen. In addition, the officials verified that a significant number of the products had very little wear, a detail that draws attention at a time when the shortage and high prices of new tires hit this sector severely.Due to this context, that Division of the City Police intensified the inspections in this type of business in search of cutting the illegal trade of wheels that are probably stolen. As in the cases of tires and rims, it is difficult to determine if they originated in theft, the Scrapyard Law came to fill that legal gap.According to the sources consulted by this means, the City agents seized a total of 534 tires and 98 rims.
